The Friends of Bishop Henderson School
The Friends of Bishop Henderson School comprises a small group of parents and teachers, who help to raise additional funds for the school, by organising different fund-raising events throughout the school year.
We welcome support from all parents, teachers and governors in a variety of ways, particularly with our two main events - the Summer and Christmas Fayres. Not only are these good fund-raisers, but a real sense of community is felt throughout.
In the last 2 years, we have raised enough money to install the all weather play area and outdoor equipment, which is extremely popular with all the children. We also put money towards the newly re-furbished kitchen. We have made smaller, but equally important, contributions towards books, science and geography equipment, wet weather games for each class, headphones for each computer and special needs and multicultural resources. We have also helped to equip the quiet room for Reception and Year 1, the Chaplain room and also gave money to set up the Environment Club.
In addition, we organise some social events, open to the whole family, in the past have included fashion shows, bingo, cinema night, ceilidh, sports nights etc. The emphasis is on enjoyment and giving people the chance to socialise with other families in a fun environment!
We also try to run 6 cake stalls and second hand uniform shops throughout the year, these are both very popular events.
Another important fund-raiser is the 100 Club, this is a monthly prize draw, which raises money for our school. For just £1 per month your name is entered into the draw, which takes place in the school. The money is collected twice a year (September and March) preferably by standing order. Half the money is used for prizes and the remainder goes towards school funds. Please ask at reception if you would like to join.
We always welcome new ideas and new committee members. Parents are welcome to attend our AGM held in October/November, when the new committee is formed, and from then on we meet approximately 6 times a year for meetings, and of course we help run any planned events.
